How a Gutter Cleaning Works

Updated

Short answer

Six steps: send the address and height, get a price, ladders set safely, every run cleaned by hand, every downspout flushed and tested, and a photo report of anything that needs repair. Most one-story homes take one to two hours; Angi lists one to three hours depending on the gutters.
  1. 01

    Send the details

Call (815) 420-3335 or use the quote form: the address, how tall the house is, what you need, and anything special like guards, a walkout back side or a downspout that never runs.
  2. 02

    Get a price

A local crew that covers your town calls back with a price, often from the address and street-level photos, before anything is booked.
  3. 03

    Ladder setup

Ladders on firm, level ground with a standoff, so nothing rests on the gutter. CDC's NIOSH counts more than 500,000 ladder injuries a year; this step is not skipped.
  4. 04

    Hand cleaning

Every run scooped by hand from the high end toward the outlet, debris bagged as yard waste instead of dropped in your beds.
  5. 05

    Flush and test

Each run rinsed with a hose and each downspout run at full flow. Clogs are cleared from the bottom elbow, not forced down from the top.
  6. 06

    Photo report

Loose hangers, leaking seams and soft fascia are photographed and priced. Nothing is repaired without your OK.

Before the crew arrives

Three things that help

  • Unlock side gates and note any dogs in the yard
  • Move cars away from the driveway eaves
  • Point out any downspout that overflows or never runs

After the cleaning

Bags of leaves either go with the crew or out with your yard waste, depending on what you agreed. In Rockford, yard waste goes in paper bags or an X-marked can on garbage day; see leaf pickup by town. The next cleaning usually falls in late spring after the maple seeds drop; see best month to clean gutters.

Ready for a price?

Send the address and the height. A local crew calls back before anything is booked.
